WHAT IS BIODYNAMIC CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle non-invasive but potent way of working with the body using light touch. It supports your body's innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself as well as helping to reduce stress and build underlying energy. It is safe and suitable for everyone, from newly born babies, children and adolescents through to elder years.
It can settle the central nervous system, through homeostasis and assist in realigning the body.
Craniosacral therapy roots developed from the work of Osteopath William Garner Sutherland (1873-1954). His observations were that the cranial bones have a very subtle rhythmic motion and that the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes our brain and our nervous system is essential in maintaining our health. He termed this system Primary Respiration.
His initial approach to treatments was mechanically based, aimed at restoring optimal fluid flow, venous and lymphatic. In the latter years and development of his work, the belief was that the most potent healing work was more energetic and biodynamic in formation.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN THIS SUPPORT?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can support many conditions and below is a list of some of the conditions that may respond well: Anxiety, arthritis, asthma, autism, ADHD, back pain, chronic fatigue, colic, post concussion symptoms, TMJ dysfunction/dental issues, depression, digestive problems, emotional problems, earache, fibromyalgia, general aches and pains, headaches, insomnia, Long Covid, MS/ME, migraines, nausea, neuralgia, postnatal depression, post-operative recovery, PTSD, sciatica, sinusitis, stress, sprains, tinnitus, torticollis (wry neck), trauma.
Every session is unique to the individual and there are options to incorporate other techniques into your session including pain management and breathwork to assist and support regulation and self healing.
For general wellbeing it allows time for deep relaxation and time to focus on the mind - body connection.
It works very well as a stand alone therapy but can also be beneficial in combination with talk therapies due to our life experiences being held within the body at a cellular level.
For some it is suggested as a recommendation before talk therapy due to its ability to settle the nervous system and take the body from an activated sympathetic state (fight and flight) and into a parasympathetic state (rest and digest) and often facilitating better coping mechanisms and a more relaxed and balanced state of being.
